1533 HISTORICAL DIVORCE
The marriage between King Henry VIII of England and Catherine of Aragon was declared null and void. It is the divorce for which the English monarch severed ties with the Pope.
The decision to annul the marriage was taken by Thomas Cranmer, the spiritual leader of the Church of England at the time of the break from Rome, a friend of Henry’s and the Boleyn family’s clergyman.
After the divorce, Henry married Anne Boleyn. Catherine of Aragon remained in England. He lived only three years after the end of the marriage. He died in England.
1934 ON LIFE AND DEATH
Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the famous US gangster and bank robber couple, are caught in a police ambush and fatally shot.
Between 1931 and 1934, during the “Great Depression”, the two robbed several stores and banks, which is why they were classified as public enemies.
Bonnie and Clyde wanted to be buried next to each other, but her family did not accept. The 1967 film “Bonnie and Clyde” gave a romantic aura to the story of the two.
2021 INTERNATIONAL SCANDAL
A Ryanair plane is forced to land in Belarus. The pretext was a bomb threat targeting the plane. There was a dissident from Belarus on the plane.
When the aircraft landed in Minsk, Belarusian police officers boarded and took Roman Protasevich, the editor-in-chief of the Nexta publication, and his girlfriend.
Protasevich’s arrest and the manner in which it was carried out led to protests against the Lukashenko regime around the world. In March 2023, he received 8 years in prison.
