After almost 30 years in which the Romanian Army had no submarine, the Ministry of National Defense is preparing a purchase: two billion euros for two new submarines. Until then, the Naval forces will have only the Delfinul submarine, which has been stationary since 1996.
A Digi24 team filmed inside the Delfinul submarine, including the command post, the “brain” of the craft. Those at the command post could monitor everything outside, including whether or not enemy ships were in the area.
Also here is the periscope of the submarine. From the position where the Dolphin is now, you can see, at a distance of about 4 kilometers, the Casino of Constanța.
The Dolphin entered the Romanian Naval Forces in 1986. It was operational for 10 years, went out to sea, carried out surveillance operations.
In 1995, the submarine ran out of batteries, although they had been changed once, and in 1996 it was decommissioned. It was also visited only by the curious on the occasion of Navy Day.
Now, however, Romania wants to buy two submarines, which will cost 2 billion euros. It is about Scorpene submarines, from the French company Naval Group. Also, other ships, including mine hunters, will enter the naval forces’ equipment.
