Miracle drug scam sold on the internet. Images of well-known news sites, including Digi24.ro, are used to lure people with supposed treatments that unclog blood vessels and solve all health problems or restore vision. Doctors warn that the health risks are huge.
The scam was reported by one of the doctors whose name was used in this scam. A patient came to the consultation and asked her to guide him how to take the medicine that would unclog, he said, all the vessels. The doctor warns that the health risks are huge and patients should not fall into such traps.
Maria Dorobanțu, cardiologist: They use the names of doctors, university professors. I don’t even know how to write Carol Davila University correctly, I write with “K”, and so on, and all the information that is given is erroneous and false. They use language that is completely and utterly inappropriate, unscientific, and thus doing great harm to people. When I looked at the price that is in the interview attributed to me, 2,100 euros per package, it seemed to me something of science fiction for a drug that does not exist. Such drugs with an unknown composition can be life-threatening.
Another surgeon whose identity was used says he has even been contacted by people from abroad.
Radu Zamfir, surgeon: These scammers have gone too far. I was shocked to learn that these things happened in Peru, people in Peru contacted me to ask if I recommend these products. At the bottom of the line are people who, if they make these recommendations, must be held legally accountable for their actions.
Sorin Stănică, chief police commissioner: We have to be very careful, because in general when we talk about fraud, online fraud, it is a practice to use the image of well-known people, well-known brands that help those who commit crimes to achieve what they set out to do, i.e. convince users to buy that product.
The Minister of Health warned live on Digi24 that people are putting their lives at risk when they resort to such treatments.
Alexandru Rafila, Minister of Health: What the world needs to know is the following – not buying medicine on the Internet is the biggest mistake, with certain exceptions. There is a list of pharmacies on the website of the Ministry of Health that can sell medicines online, but still with a medical recommendation.
The minister also says that these servers that host the respective sites are generally in the former Soviet space, being difficult to access or control.
