A medical assistant from Oradea is accused of demanding almost 30,000 euros from seven people, to whom he allegedly promised in return that he would broker their employment in the hospital where he worked. Although they gave him the money, the 7 were only left with the promise. The man was detained by the DNA for influence peddling and risks hard years behind bars.
The facts, say the prosecutors, would have taken place in the period 2020-2022, during the COVID-19 pandemic. In exchange for the money given, the victims were to work as medical assistants and nurses in the Municipal Clinical Hospital “Dr. Gavril Curteanu” Oradea, medical unit later taken over by the Bihor Emergency County Clinical Hospital.
“The defendant allegedly claimed and received from 7 people sums of money ranging from 1,500 euros to 13,500 euros, in total 29,500 euros, as well as other improper benefits, leading to the belief that he would have influence on some decisive factors in the management of the two hospitals mentioned above and promising that it will cause them to facilitate the conclusion of employment contracts, for an indefinite period, in the name of these persons, for the occupation of medical assistant and nurse positions”, the DNA prosecutors say.
The 7 were only left with the promise, prosecutors say, because none of them received the promised job in return.
For his deed, the man was detained for 24 hours and will be presented to the Bihor Court with a proposal for preventive arrest for 30 days.
