At 61 years old, Romică Țociu is about to embark on the great adventure of life, together with his son, Cătălin. The beloved comedian chose to follow the invitation of the producers of the show “America Express” (Antena 1) and go to South America for about two months, in search of unparalleled challenges. Romică Țociu gave us sparkling statements, exclusively for Playtech News.
What did Cornel Palade wish him, before leaving
Those around him encouraged him, upon learning the news. And his best friend, who is also his stage partner, Cornel Palade, former contestant on “I’m famous, get me out of here!” (PRO TV), told him only one thing: “Bravo, Gica, congratulations! You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into!”, Cornel Palade’s first reaction sounded dry.
According to Romică Țociu, he also kissed him and told him “that he was holding his fists”:
“Cornel has known for some time that this summer he will be alone for about two months. He shook my hands, kissed me and said some encouraging words. The ones I told you above!” Romică Țociu told us for Playtech News.
“I told Cornel what was going through my head and that I was leaving him alone, and that was it!”
The television star also told us that he had this proposal for several years, but only now gave it a go, for the simple reason that he decided to give up most of the summer tours, in the company of his partner, Cornel Palade :
“The producers of this show have been assaulting me with their offer for about four or five years. Each time, I couldn’t let go of my agenda. This year, however, I decided to make a change.
I told Cornel what was going through my head and that I was leaving him alone and that was it. It will be a big challenge for me!” added Romică Țociu, exclusively for Playtech News.
Romică Țociu: “Sleeping in train stations or under the open sky, I’ve done it before”
He assured us, with the dose of humor that accompanies his every word, that he especially prepared mentally for the difficulties to come:
“I didn’t do much physical training. One could see the energy, it was left behind and we will put it to work. It’s mental to work with. Here is everyone’s bet.
I’ve done it before, when I was young, about sleeping in train stations or under the open sky. Let’s see what will happen now. It’s a challenging thing, with a lot of adrenaline and I like that!”, Romică Țociu also indicated.
No family council in making the big decision
On the other hand, his people encouraged him to accept the great challenge:
“There was no family council on the show. Nicoleta, my wife, knew that I had such a proposal and that I was tempted by the idea, so she encouraged me for some time. Cătălin, my son, and him, too.
I rely on him a lot, that he knows English well. A few words in Spanish will work for me, but mostly hand language. I’m shaking my hands, I’ve been told I have some talent at this, so I bet I’ll manage somehow!” he says.

His son is passionate about cooking
Romica admits that she has some fears. Some he admits he still controls:
“It won’t be easy, that’s clear to me and to others. You don’t know what kind of challenges await you, what kind of more or less crazy situations we will meet. But the fact that I will be with my son encourages me.
We’ve always been close, so now, once more, we’re going to have an unforgettable father-son time. I hope that this will help us to finish the whole story!”, Romică Țociu concluded.
His son, Cătălin, is 25 years old and is passionate about culinary art, which will serve them well in the great adventure in Colombia, Ecuador and Argentina.
