Outrageous case in Arad. A 73-year-old woman was beaten and cursed in the street by a policeman from IPJ Arad. The conflict between the two would be an older one, writes Special Arad. The police officer is the current boyfriend of the old woman’s former daughter-in-law. The images, captured by a surveillance camera, eventually reached the man’s superiors, who are now conducting a disciplinary investigation. A criminal file was also opened against the policeman for beatings and other violence.
The incident took place on March 16, 2023, on a small street near the Cathedral Square in Arad. The man would have waited for 10 minutes for the 73-year-old woman, who was at the market. When he saw her appear, he accosted her and verbally and physically assaulted her until she fell to the pavement.

The man, who is a police officer at the Forensic Service within the IJP Arad, is the current life partner of the old woman’s former daughter-in-law. He allegedly reproached the 73-year-old woman for not letting her grandchildren see their mother. The policeman’s girlfriend was previously married to the old woman’s son, and following the divorce, the two children stayed with their father.
“He told me that I don’t leave the children with their mother. I asked him how he knew that I don’t leave the children with their mother and I asked him in what capacity he was asking me this question. (…) He was coming towards me, he was holding me, I moved aside, I tried to get to the pedestrian side, I took a step, then I saw him look left and right, I didn’t realize what he was actually looking at . At that moment he took a step and hit me in the heart. I could no longer see anything in front of my eyes and I found myself down. He was about to slap me with his palm, but I raised my palm, instinctively. He left me there . He comes to me and says: ‘You fell alone!'” the old woman told the quoted source.
After the incident, the woman’s son obtained the video that captured the moment and began legal proceedings to bring justice to his mother.
“The criminal complaint was filed, after which I made a petition to the management of IPJ Arad and after a long time, about a month, I managed to enter the audience with the chief commissioner of IPJ Arad, to whom I reported exactly the actual situation,” the man told the local press.
Contacted by phone by journalists from Special Arad, the accused policeman said “I have nothing to declare”. When told that he was filmed by surveillance cameras in the area hitting the 73-year-old woman, he added: “I don’t know. Get in touch with the Police and see further.”
“On May 4, 2023, the IPJ Arad was informed about the fact that a septuagenarian from Arad had been assaulted in the city’s Cathedral Square. From the research it emerged that what was reported is confirmed, in the case being a police officer of the IPJ Arad . The management of the IPJ Arad ordered the preliminary investigation of the policeman in question, and upon their completion, the required legal measures will be taken. At the same time, prior to notifying our institution, the victim filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Arad District Court, the investigations being continued under the coordination of the case prosecutor. Our institution dissociates itself from such behaviors of the police, each deviation will be sanctioned”, Claudia Iuga, the spokesperson of the IPJ Arad, told the cited source.
