Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that Russia shares the West’s view that the war in Ukraine should not become a frozen conflict.
The Kremlin spokesman announces that Russia shares the West’s point of view
“Russia is only considering the possibility of completing the special military operation: securing its interests, achieving the goals that Russia has set for itself either through the special military operation or through other available means,” Peskov said.
Asked which of the peace plans proposed by various parties is most sympathetic to Moscow, Peskov said that “none of the preconditions for a peace agreement have been met.”
US officials are considering the possibility that the war in Ukraine could become a frozen conflict lasting “many years”, noting that neither side in the war appears “inclined to admit defeat”.
“It would be too early to talk about a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian conflict, as there are currently no prerequisites for this scenario,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with TASS.
There is no room for negotiations
Asked which of the various reconciliation plans presented by other countries would be preferable for Russia and whether Moscow has its own version, the Kremlin press secretary replied:
“I didn’t get any response: ‘It’s too early to talk about it. Obviously, there are still no prerequisites for a peace process”.
“The special military operation continues,” he added.
Asked whether the Kremlin is ready to negotiate with anyone from the current government in Kiev, Peskov answered:
“No, they are not ready to negotiate with anyone from the current government in Kiev: “This is hardly possible, because any negotiations with Russia are prohibited in Ukraine.”
Last October, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a decree banning any talks with Moscow, saying he was not interested in interacting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
