Game news Alan Wake 2’s Release Disappoints Gamers and Here’s Why
Last night during the PlayStation Showcase, Remedy took the opportunity to reveal more concretely one of its most anticipated projects: we named Alan Wake II. Overall, the public is won over, but there is a big downside, revealed in the process.
Tome 2
We all know the success of the first Alan Wake: thanks to its dark atmosphere, its remarkable writing and its open end, many fans have formed over the years, praying for a sequel in due form. Remedy fully heard its community and therefore set to work on Alan Wake II, who just showed up last night during the PlayStation Showcase, gameplay trailer in support.
The opportunity also for the Finnish firm to reveal the release date, set for October 17 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The catch is that the game will not be released in boxes, but only digitally… which many players don’t like.
It’s (not) in the box
The news fell within a FaQ published on the official site of the game: Epic Games, which is the publisher of the title, “currently have no plans to release Alan Wake 2 on disc”. The reason is simple: most of the target audience would have switched to dematerialized for some time.
By the way, we also have prizes: the PC version (released on the Epic Games Store) will cost $49.99 and the PS5/Xbox Series versions will require $59.99. A choice that angers some Internet users.
No physical version, I do not buy. How can indie developers manage to publish their games in physics all the time, when a huge publisher won’t even do that? I would have gladly paid $70 for a physical copy.

Yeah, I don’t even buy it if it’s not on record.
Yeah I’m not getting this if it’s not on disk

Other players are also complaining about the Epic Games Store exclusivity on PC, the Windows version obviously not being planned on Steam (which is easily understood, given the publisher). Others point to console versions that are more expensive than the PC version. And, overall, many gamers are proving unhappy with these decisions, despite genuine excitement for the project itself.
See you, anyway, on October 17th!
