DNA prosecutors carry out searches on Thursday in Bucharest, Bacau and Iași. Two of the searches take place at the head office of the Romanian Post, but also at the institution’s Iași branch, according to judicial sources.
The DNA searches the premises of the Romanian Post Office
It seems that contracts for the renovation of some Post offices are targeted. The National Anticorruption Directorate stated in a statement that investigations are being carried out in a criminal case regarding suspicions of corruption related to the conclusion of public procurement contracts, committed in the period 2022-2023.
In the same file, searches are carried out in five locations in Bucharest, Iași and Bacău, two of which are headquarters of public institutions.
According to some sources cited by Hotnews.ro, the investigation would concern contracts for the renovation of some premises and the hearing of several people at DNA Iași follows.
The institution’s reaction
The Romanian Post reacted, saying that its own internal investigation had been launched.
“The representatives of the National Anticorruption Directorate arrived today at three of the company’s headquarters. Parallel to the DNA checks, Poșta Română started its own internal investigation.
We ensure that the national operator of postal services treats with maximum responsibility all obligations imposed by law and manages its resources and the projects it carries out seriously and carefully.
Also, the Company routinely cooperates with any public control authority, being open to any official requests regarding its activity,” the representatives of the Post Office said.
