News culture ‘It Was Sausage Fair’: Scarlett Johansson Reveals How She Felt When She Started Making Marvel Movies
During a podcast, Scarlett Johansson recounted her debut in the MCU. And the least we can say is that she didn’t immediately feel very comfortable…
You won’t see Scarlett Johansson in the MCU anymore
It was in 2010 that actress Scarlett Johansson, best known for her role in Ghost World, Lost in Translation et The Girl with a Pearl Earringintegrated the MCU. It is in fact in Iron Man 2 that her character Natasha Romanoff (also called the Black Widow) appears for the first time. A role that she will camp for more than 10 years. The latest film is also a feature film centered on his character and which is called, logically, Black Widow. But as one might suspect, Scarlett Johansson has definitely repackaged the Black Widow costume. It must be said that it was difficult to see how his character could return after the events ofAvengers : Endgame and the existence of the prequel Black Widow.

And if you still had any doubts, the actress made it clear during an episode of the podcast The Goop last month. “I finished. The chapter is over. I did everything I had to do” she explained. Gwyneth Paltrow, who hosts the said podcast, also took this opportunity to say that she was also planning to leave the MCU. “I’m a little old to be in costume” she amused herself. However, Scarlett Johansson admits having had a crazy experience playing this character all this time. “Coming back and playing a character again and again, over a decade, is such a unique experience.” However, rumors insinuated that the actress did not get along with everyone during the filming ofIron Man 2…and especially not with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Scarlette Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow, two women in a world of superheroes

During the podcast, the two actresses also returned to these funny rumors. According to them, they were totally unfounded. Not only did the two women get along well, but they even supported each other throughout the filming. Because for Scarlett Johansson, landing in this sequel was not an easy task: “I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! {…} I was so out of my comfort zone on this movie. I had never done anything like this before. Plus, you had made such deep friendships.”
For her part, Gwyneth Paltrow was delighted to finally see a woman land on the set. It must be said that with all these male superheroes, the first Marvel films did not offer many female characters on the screen. Scarlett Johansson also felt the same as her teammate at the start of The Avengers: “When I did Avengers, I was one of the few {women}…it was like one big sausage party!” In a way, they both paved the way for more strong female characters in the MCU (Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Gamora, Captain Marvel…). Marvel will also soon host its first film featuring a troupe made up exclusively of superheroines: The Marvels (Next November 8 in theaters).
