Frontier Developments, the studio behind F1 Manager 2023 or even Elite Dangerous, has just formalized a new production in the Warhammer universe. While strategy fans have recently been treated to the very good Total War: Warhammer III, they will be happy to learn of the upcoming arrival of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin.
An epic single-player campaign
The studio’s new game is set in Ghur, a violent region in which only the fittest survive. Thus, Frontier Developments invites players to discover a single-player campaign in which the “Stormcast Eternals” attempt to reconquer the kingdom by facing the Kruleboyz, an Orruk faction living in Ghur.
It is in this context that Sigrun, the leader of a detachment of Stormcast, learns of a source of arcane power capable of protecting the Stormcast against the Kruleboys. He therefore ventures into the swamps in the hope of drawing energy from this power.
The single-player campaign owes its script to Gavin Thorpe, author of Black Library. This tale of the Age of Sigmar universe is based on Dawnbringer’s Crusades from the latest edition of the tabletop game.
In addition to this game mode, it will be possible to compete in multiplayer in 1v1 and 2v2. Icing on the cake, the game will be cross platform!
Gameplay also designed for consoles
Available on both PC and consoles, controller players will be able to take advantage of “DirectStep”, an innovative interface for real-time strategy. In order to react effectively on the field, analog sticks and triggers will be used to offer Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 owners a similar responsiveness to PC gamers with a mouse and keyboard.
Strategy at the heart of gameplay
On the gameplay side, Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin will allow you to embody four totally different factions both strategically and visually. To claim victory, players will battle it out on the “Arcane Conduits” with the goal of harvesting resources, strengthening their units via tech trees, and controlling the battle on multiple fronts.
For this, it is necessary to use the different units wisely, since each has its own strengths and weaknesses. Whether it’s fast pilots, heavy monsters, mystical wizards or even powerful heroes, they all have their uses!
A perfectly transcribed universe
In order to fully immerse players in the heart of Warhammer Age of Sigmar, the developers wanted to model each unit with precision to transcribe the visual experience of board games.
That’s not all, since special care has been taken in the animations to offer a dramatic and thrilling vision of this universe. Wild fauna and flora also received special treatment, notably with environmental obstacles to shape players’ strategy.
More information will be communicated in the coming months. No release date has yet been specified, but the title will be available on both Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
