During this period, the Romanian authorities are faced with a series of crises, on several fronts. Many Romanians are dissatisfied with the money they earn, but especially with price increases, inflation, interest rates. This is how the massive strike in education, the first of its kind in 18 years, came to be.
While education workers are hoping for pay rises and the introduction of bonuses because they are running out of money, this is highly unlikely to happen. Most likely, a form of financial aid will be reached, as in the case of vulnerable Romanians who receive aid to pay their energy bills.
“We discussed very constructively. It is very clear at this point that there can be no salary increase of any kind. Colleagues in education are at the top of the grid at the moment, and it is this Government that has made this possible. Also, it cannot be a question of granting increases at this moment and it was very constructively discussed that in the government program that will be presented as soon as the new Coalition settlement will form the new Government and will come before the Parliament, the priority number 1 will be Education”, declared, at the end of the negotiations, Marian Neacșu, Secretary General of the Government.
How will the aid of 2500 lei for teachers be calculated
“Compared to the previous discussions, the Government’s additional offer will be that of granting an amount in June and one in October, related to the 2 important events, which will consist of a card for the professional career, given to teachers and auxiliary staff. The proposed amount is 1,000 lei for June and 1,500 for October. Such sums should also be granted to non-teaching staff, 500 lei in June and October,” he said.
However, this above aid will not be formalized without confirmation of feasibility from the World Bank. The institution is to analyze the new wage law until July 15. After that stage, the first category that will benefit from a new salary law will be Education. “To the greatest extent, the amounts provided in these cards will be used for the teaching career. (…) At this moment a flat-rate share of 30% can be granted, the money being from European funds, with a flat-rate character, and the amount that will be allocated from the state budget can be used for any destination”, the secretary concluded general of the Government.
