The police in Alba have opened a criminal case in which they are investigating, in rem, for the crime of manslaughter, after a 41-year-old woman, admitted to the Aiud Municipal Hospital, died on Thursday evening, shortly after she was transferred from the Gynecology Department to Intensive Care. The representatives of the health unit notified the Police about the death of the patient.
Officials of the Alba County Police Inspectorate stated, on Friday, at the request of News.ro, that the police opened an investigation after they were alerted by the representatives of the Aiud Municipal Hospital regarding the death of a patient.
The cited source specified that the checks are being made in rem, regarding the crime of manslaughter, and that no notification was received from the woman’s relatives.
On Friday, the police are waiting for the result of the necropsy, which must specify the cause of death.
The medical director of the Aiud Municipal Hospital, doctor Mircea Domşa, told News.ro that the woman had presented herself in emergency two days ago, having a genital tumor formation in her pelvis. On Thursday, because she had pain in the abdominal area, she was rushed to the operating room.
According to the doctor, in the operating room, the patient was initially given a spinal anesthesia which had no effect, after which an oro-tracheal anesthesia was given, at which point she went into cardio-respiratory arrest due to broncho-spasm.
Mircea Domşa explained that such cases are very rare.
According to him, the surgeons did not have time to open the patient. She was resuscitated in the operating room, she was taken to the Intensive Care Unit where she had a second cardio-respiratory arrest, after which she could no longer be resuscitated.
