The former Finance Minister Sebastian Vlădescu was definitively sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison in the case of the rehabilitation of the Bucharest-Constanța railway.

Vlădescu received a lower sentence than in the first instance, considering that some of the crimes were time-barred.
“Applies to the defendant Vlădescu Sebastian Teodor Gheorghe the heaviest penalty, 6 years in prison, to which he adds an increase of one third of the total of the other established penalties, 1 year and 4 months in prison, with the result that he will finally serve the resulting penalty of 7 years and 4 months in prison”, the press release states.
And Mircea Geoană’s brother-in-law was sentenced to 6 years in prison
In the same case, Mircea Geoană’s brother-in-law, Mircea Ionuț Costea, was sentenced to six years in prison.
The ÎCCJ admitted the appeals of Sebastian Teodor Gheorghe Vlădescu, Mircea Ionuț Costea, Mihaela Mititelu, Constantin Dascălu and Cristian Alexandru Boureanu and abolished, in part, the contested criminal sentence. He also reduced the resulting sentence of 8 years and 6 months in prison for Sebastian Vlădescu as follows: 7 years in prison for bribery, 6 years in prison for influence peddling, 7 years in prison for bribery, 1 year and 6 months in prison, enhanced sentence.
“The ICCJ orders the termination of the criminal trial for the crime of influence peddling as a result of the expiration of the statute of limitations for criminal liability, reduces the amount of the punishment for the crime of taking bribes from 7 years in prison to 6 years in prison, reduces the amount of the punishment for the crime of taking bribes bribery from 7 years in prison to 4 years in prison”
