Former Prime Minister Ludovic Orban told Digi24 that he is not upset that the government rotation has been postponed, considering that the current coalition between PSD, PNL and UDMR is “a bezmetic coalition, in permanent turmoil”. “What’s wrong with Ciucă, what’s wrong with Ciolacu?”, said Orban, currently president of the Forța Dreptei party.
“A bezmetic coalition, which is in constant flux, not rotating. The fact that I don’t do the rotary anymore is no upset, because what’s wrong with Ciucă, what’s wrong with Ciolacu? It’s one and the same thing. In fact, from my point of view, handing over the government to a PSD prime minister is an unqualified act for a center-right, liberal political formation, which was supposed to be the pole of the right in Romania and the main opponent of the successor of the Communist Party”, said Ludovic Orban, at Digi24.
The former prime minister says that the statements of the governors, which differ from day to day, are “absolutely shocking”.
“What is absolutely shocking is the change from one day to the next in statements, this inconsistency. How to declare on Wednesday that you are resigning on Friday and then say on Friday that you are not resigning? How can you, Ciolacu, declare that you will take responsibility on the issue of special pensions and then say that first Ciucă will solve the problem of the strike and special pensions and then you will take over the government? How can you say, Iohannis, that the rotary has to keep going and after you say that the ring is no longer made? It’s something from the night of the mind,” he added.
Orban says that the strike in Education is caused by the Government, not by teachers or unions.
“These statements are all given after the Education strike began. This strike was simply provoked by the Government. It is the government that, after the presentation of Educated Romania, came up with the Education bills and they said that they would increase teachers’ salaries, starting from the starting salary, equivalent to the average salary in the economy, so as to attract higher education graduates to the education system
You say a year, you commit to this, and when the law is debated in Parliament, we, the opposition, ended up submitting amendments to bring it back from 15%, which was passed in the draft law, to 18%, which was in the government program, education funding, and let’s reintroduce the article, which they also took out, that guaranteed teacher pay increases. They voted against these amendments,” explained Orban.
Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă announced, Friday morning, in a press conference together with PSD and UDMR leaders, that he will not resign until the education crisis is resolved. The Prime Minister’s announcement means the postponement of the government rotation. Political sources told Digi24.ro that the leaders of the Coalition expect next week to come to an understanding with the union leaders of teachers who are satisfied with the salaries they receive. So far, however, neither side has taken a step back, and negotiations are deadlocked, just as political negotiations in the Coalition are deadlocked.
