You must go to the “Heart of Jesus” too. It’s a simply fabulous place. Unfortunately, few Romanians have learned about him. The unusual monumental construction is intended to be one of the largest representations of the Savior in Europe, and probably has every chance at the more than 20 meters it presents in height.
You must go to the “Heart of Jesus” too
Harghita county is known by Romanians for its wild beauty and the picturesque landscapes it hides. Located in the center of the country, it offers a wide range of tourist attractions for nature and adventure enthusiasts. From mountains, lakes, traditional villages to spa and ski resorts, the region is an exciting destination for visitors.
Few have heard, however, about a very special story place in the area. It is about the “Heart of Jesus”, built in 2011 on the Gordon hill, located between Odorheiu-Secuiesc and Praid. The monumental construction is intended to be the largest representation of the Savior in Europe, being 22 meters high.
The “Heart of Jesus” was made almost exclusively of galvanized iron and stainless steel, two materials that are not affected by rust, thus lasting a long time in their original form. The artist Zavaczky Walter, originally from Odorhei Szekler, designed the statue in a form somewhat similar to Christ the Redeemer in Rio, adapting it to the environmental conditions, as Gordon Hill has a lot of precipitation and strong wind throughout the year.
A total budget of 200 thousand euros was needed for the construction of the monument, but the investment seems to have been worth it, many tourists who hear about the “Heart of Jesus” move to Harghita to visit it.
Admire the view from 22 meters high
The statue can be admired from a distance, due to the fact that it has a central structure in the form of a seven-story tower and an outer grid with complex decorations that form the torso of the Savior. But the Romanians who reach Gordon Hill don’t stop there, they climb to its top.
The Savior’s head is formed, according to the information available online, from a metal skeleton on which stainless steel plates have been fixed. Around it was placed a metallic circle supported by five thin rays that form the aureole of Jesus, the symbol not being specific to either Orthodoxy or Catholicism. So “Heart of Jesus” is an art form.
As I mentioned, tourists who arrive at the monument cannot resist the temptation and climb to the top of the statue, from where they can admire an absolutely wonderful view. We don’t need to tell you more, because the images uploaded in the PHOTO gallery of this material speak for themselves.
