Treasures have been sources of interest since ancient times. People were fascinated by the get-rich-quick but also by the fascinating stories behind them.
Obviously, some stories are completely true, others have only a grain of truth, but most of them are stories and nothing more, figments of the imaginative minds of certain people.
The present story could be included in any of these categories, but whatever the truth is, it doesn’t make it any less interesting.
It is said that, somewhere in Bărăgan, flanked by golden grains, there are extraordinary treasures, but which bring disaster to the one who finds them and does not share them.
In the 19th century, when the Bărăganu Plain was transformed into an arable land, several legends appeared about a certain treasure of golden yellows from Dor Mărunt, but also about the curses that can be poured out on the greedy.

The Cursed Treasure of Little Sorrow: Multicolored Flames and Creepy Legends
Dor Mărunt is a town located in Bărăgan, between Lehliu and Călărași, and the local elders say that an impressive treasure is hidden here. The one who finds it will not be lucky, on the contrary, as the joy will not last long.
People told that, in this area, they would have seen multi-colored flames, in the middle of the night, not knowing what they really were, but suspecting that they would be related to the supposed legend involving this treasure.
The place is known by the locals as La Movilă.
Here, a villager would at one point discover a jug full of gold coins while plowing the land he owned.
As he was a good-hearted man, he shared the treasure with other villagers, but it was allegedly quickly confiscated by the Militia. In this case, it cannot be established exactly on whom the curse was cast.
Greed pays
According to another story on the subject, another local man allegedly discovered more than 100 gold coins.
Gheorghe Prepelita, because this is the villager’s name, did not want to share what he found with anyone, so he built houses, outbuildings and acquired all kinds of things around the household.
Not even 7 months after finding the treasure, troubles began to fall on his family. His wife threw herself into a well, to be followed by her son-in-law. It didn’t take long, and his daughter hanged herself, where do you think, next to the same well that itself seemed cursed.
The same happened to another stean who discovered a similar treasure in the Bărăganului Plain. He found a small cask full of golden yolks at the base of a walnut tree.
In the evening in question he dreamed that a voice told him to build a church with the money, but in the morning, the villager had already forgotten the dream, so he did what most people would do: he used the money for his own benefit, opening several businesses.
He found his two-year-old boy hanging from the crib rails. That night, the villager would dream of the same voice reminding him that trouble would follow if he did not build the church. It is said that this time he complied, and the church still exists today.
