WhatsApp is fighting hard to constantly come up with updates and new features to face the fierce competition in the world of instant messaging platforms.
The Meta-owned giant is now preparing an already controversial change that will completely change the way we log in to the platform.
If you have a WhatsApp account, you surely know that there was no way to open it if you did not have a valid phone number to access and where to receive some verification elements, such as a code to – you enter it later on the platform, for identity verification.
WhatsApp is turning into the old Yahoo Messenger. If you’re in your 30s, you know what I’m talking about
Well, this would be gone soon. The techies working for the popular app believe it would be more secure and help increase privacy for users if they could log in with a username instead of their phone number, as we’ve seen happen in present.
By a slightly forced comparison, the situation would be like logging in to Yahoo Messenger, by ID and password.
The new modification has not been made public, nor has it been officially announced as something safe, but it emerges, according to journalists from the international specialized press, from the code contained in the latest beta version of the Android application.
With nothing officially announced by any WhatsApp representative, the details that are known at this time are minimal. For example, it is not known if the change will become mandatory for the nearly two billion users worldwide or if it will be released as a simple alternative option for them. It’s not known exactly how the new WhatsApp will work either, but probably once the tests are over and it’s determined that this change is really needed, we’ll all have an adjustment period and we’ll know exactly when and in what form we will be able to use the platform in the future.
