At least three people were killed, and five others were injured, in an armed attack, at a meeting of some bikers, in New Mexico, in the south of the United States, the authorities announce, confirming press information, reports AFP, quoted by News.ro.
“The perpetrators of the armed attack were all arrested. No member of the law enforcement, no emergency personnel was injured. No residents were injured. It was an incident between gangs”, announced, without specifying the number of arrests, the mayor of Red River, Linda Calhoun, in a video interview granted to the local publication Questa Del Rio News, confirming the account of the incidents in the local press.
She did not specify which gangs were involved.
The armed attack took place on Saturday evening, around 5:00 p.m. local time (2:00 a.m. Sunday, Romanian time), after about 20,000 motorcyclists gathered on Memorial Day at Red River in Taos County.
According to local newspaper The Taos News, a police officer described the central cell incident as “an armed attack between the (biker club) Banditos and another club.”
A witness told local ABC News affiliate KOAT that chaos had engulfed the crowd.
“People were running around the place where we were and shouting that they were shooting there. As everyone was running around me, I heard gunshots,” said Eddie Cook.
After the attack, the mayor of Taos imposed a nighttime curfew from 10:00 p.m. local time (Sunday, 7:00 a.m. Romanian time) to 4:00 a.m. local time (1:00 p.m. Romanian time) and a ban on the sale of alcohol, according to The Taos News.
In May 2015, an armed attack between rival biker gangs in Waco, Texas (south), resulted in nine deaths and 15 injuries at a biker gathering.
