Enrollments for the 2023 Baccalaureate exam are at risk. Students have only 3 days to submit their applications, but the schools where they can do so are very few, due to the general strike. The Ministry of Education left the registration calendar unchanged and passed the responsibility to the directors, who must ensure the “human resource”.
There are very few schools where students can enroll in the Baccalaureate because of the teachers’ strike. The problem is that they only have three days to do this because Thursday is the day off for all employees in the budget sector.
Another problem could be that students enrolling in Baccalaureate need their transcripts, where all completed grades appear, which is almost impossible if the strike does not end in the next three days. The teachers have not completed the students’ school situation, so they will have an incomplete file. If they do not solve this by the time the baccalaureate exam starts, they will not be able to take it.
Today, at 13.00, negotiations are taking place at the Ministry of Labor.
Registration for the Baccalaureate exam should begin on Monday, amid the general strike of education employees, which is entering its second week. The Ministry of Education has already sent that the directors of the educational units that can provide the human resources necessary for registration will communicate to parents and students all the data necessary for registration. The government has already presented a proposal to get education unionists to end the strike, but they have rejected it.
“According to the baccalaureate exam calendar 2023, between May 29 and June 7, the registration of candidates for the first exam session is scheduled. The directors of the educational units that can provide the human resources necessary for this type of activity will communicate to parents and students all the aspects necessary to complete the registration “, transmitted the Ministry of Education.
The institution stated that it will continue to communicate permanently with the representatives of the county school inspectorates/of the Municipality of Bucharest in order to avoid situations that could create syncope in the carrying out of activities aimed at both students and teaching staff, in compliance with the legal framework imposed by the context of the protest of the education staff pre-university
The strike in Education has led, until now, to the postponement of the National Assessment for the 6th grade by a week, but also to the delay of registrations in the preparatory class.
The spokesperson of the Government, Dan Cărbunaru, announced on Sunday that the Government has prepared an emergency ordinance that will ensure increases in the incomes of teaching, auxiliary teaching and non-teaching staff. It is a budgetary effort that exceeds the amount of 700 million lei, with European resources, 410 million lei of European money from the Education and Employment Program for the period from the financial year 2021-2027, respectively 313 million lei from the national budget”, added Cărbunaru, the proposal having with the aim of ending the general strike started on May 22 by education employees.
There are 273,532 beneficiaries, practically all the employees in the education system who will receive the following amounts in a differentiated way:
– The 2,500 lei which represent support measures, either in the form of a teaching career premium, or in the form of a salary compensation premium that will ensure a transitional regime until the adoption of the new salary scale, partial coverage of the costs generated by the inflation rate and the transition to the new salary scale.
– For teaching and auxiliary teaching staff and other amounts, a total of 1,000 lei for non-teaching staff who will receive this money in June and September, while teaching and auxiliary teaching staff will receive 1,000 lei in June and 1,500 lei in October, as I announced”, added the spokesperson of the Executive.
The President of the Federation of Education Unions “Spiru Haret”, Marius Nistor, commented immediately after the Government’s announcement, declaring for News.ro that the employees of the education system will continue the strike and will not give up the protest announced for Tuesday, in Bucharest, action at which the participation of 20,000 people is announced. He claims that the Government amended the Social Dialogue Law through the OU, at the end of the week, in order to exert “pressure” on the strikers. Asked if, in this context, the scenario of postponing the national exams is taking shape, Marius Nistor answered: “Anything is possible as long as we have such behavior on the part of the Government.”
Later, the education unions responded in a joint statement to the Government’s offer regarding the increase in income, stating that the Executive is solely responsible for the continuation of the strike, given that it has not resolved the essential requirement regarding the issuance of a GEO guaranteeing that, in the new wage law , the salary of a beginner will be at least equal to the average gross salary in the economy.
The trade unionists reminded the requests to the Government representatives: salary increase of 25%, on average, until the entry into force of the Single Salary Law; the issuing of a GEO guaranteeing that, in the new salary law, the salary of the beginning teacher is equal to at least the average gross salary in the economy, which would mean that average salaries would increase by 60%,
The President of the National Federation of Pre-University Education Parents’ Associations (FNAP-IP) Iulian Cristache specified, regarding the announcement of the Government spokesman Dan Cărbunaru regarding the emergency ordinance prepared by the Executive which provides for increases in the incomes of teaching, auxiliary teaching and non-teaching staff, that such “gifts” shake things up more before a new meeting with the unions in Education. He also said that dialogue is not desired by the Government. “Stop this game of chess, it’s getting dangerous!” Cristache said.
