Teachers receive an unexpected blow from the Government. The law that was amended overnight through the GEO

Hard blow for teachers participating in the general strike in education. The Government of Romania amended a law by adopting an Emergency Ordinance. Everything happened quietly, and the ordinance has already been published in the Official Gazette, which means that it is in force and will start to take effect.

Teachers are getting an extreme blow from the Government

Specifically, teachers who participate in the strike may have seniority issues. The social dialogue law was amended by a GEO, which was already published in the Official Gazette and entered into force on May 25, Thursday, amidst the scandal regarding teachers’ salaries and the strike they started.

Marius Nistor, president of the Spiru Haret federation, spoke on Saturday evening, on Antena3, about the amendment to the law. Teachers who go on strike will be affected in terms of seniority.

“If you want to see what exactly the Government offered us, apart from repeated insults, it promoted through an emergency ordinance the amendment of the Social Dialogue Law, in the sense that from this moment on the teaching staff entering the strike would be affected in old age.

So, here is the answer of a Government that has the guts to come and say how interested it is in the fate of Romanian education.

It’s a pity for this country, a pity for educated Romania, that you make fun of it”, declared Marius Nistor.

Seniority affected by the strike

More precisely, Law 367/2022 was amended. In Article 160, paragraph 1, a request of the striking employee regarding the suspension of the employment contract was introduced.

Until the time of the change, the suspension was by law, not at the initiative of the employee. For legal suspensions, seniority is not affected, but after the change, for suspension at the employee’s request, seniority is interrupted.
