News culture You’re not ready: we know when the sequel to The Last of Us series will be released
With The Last of Us on HBO, the video game holds perhaps its most successful adaptation and it is therefore only natural that the public impatiently awaits a sequel. This will revolve around a season 2, whose release window has just been revealed.
More than a few years
HBO and Naughty Dog struck a blow in 2023: The Last of Us series was a real success, accumulating monster audiences and brilliantly received by players and viewers. A very nice showcase for PlayStation which must continue with the continuation of the adventures of Joel and Ellie: the American channel has thus confirmed the existence of a season 2, which is currently in the pipeline.
Or rather, “was”… Because with the screenwriters’ strike that has been going on for weeks now, the entire US film industry is suffering. For his part, thedevelopment of this second season is thus put on holdbut Francesca Orsi, one of the thinking heads of HBO, still estimated a year of release at the microphone of Deadline: 2025 would thus be the target year.

New to the cast
Adapting part of the story of the second video game, season 2 will include some novelties, first of all environmental since the filming will be relocated to Vancouver (against Calgary before). Then, we will also count on new faces, as Orsi indicates: “There will be a few new cast members, but I can’t tell yet.”
The problem, it is that with the strike, it is still difficult to announce anything concrete to the public.

Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Drama Original Programming
There’s not much I can say about The Last of Us, given that (showrunner Craig Mazin) can’t meaningfully kick off writing and casting just yet. But he and (co-creator Neil Druckmann) have a good idea of what they’re up to.
Season 2 will make a big leap forward from a “spectacular” point of view, especially in terms of the Clickers (the infected in the game, editor’s note), but it will also have characters with more nuanced and more complex dynamics, whether for Joel, Ellie and beyond.
In short, if you are impatient, know that you still have two years ahead of you before plunging back into the post-apocalyptic universe of The Last of Us. And if ever, The Last of Us Part II is still available on PS4 at a low price.
