A young man from Great Britain has died after being struck by lightning while paddleboarding in Greece, Sky News reports.
The 26-year-old was in the sea during a storm in Agia Agathi, Rhodes, while his girlfriend was filming him from the beach, according to local media.
Lightning would have struck the water near the paddleboarder, injuring the young man.
Local media reported that a Brazilian soccer player who plays for a local team, who was passing by, entered the sea to pull the young man back to shore.
Doctors were called to the scene, but despite medical attention, the young man was later pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed the victim’s age and that he was a British citizen, but declined to release any other information.
