The Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, announced, on Tuesday evening, that a new important step was taken for the construction of the Mintia plant, namely the contract for the construction and commissioning of the 1,750 MW combined cycle power plant was signed.
„We keep our promises! A new important step for the construction of the Mintia plant! The contract for the construction and commissioning of the combined cycle power plant of 1,750 MW has been signed”, the Minister of Energy announced on Friday evening.
According to him, the contract, worth 673.5 million euros, was signed between AVAX Group and Mass Group Holding (MGH).
The construction will last 38 months, and the investment will create approximately 700 jobs, according to News.ro.
“The new plant at Mintia is to be put into operation in the summer of 2026. The unit will operate on natural gas and will include two SGT5-9000HL gas turbines, one SST5-5000 steam turbine and three SIEMENS SGen5-3000W generators . At the same time, the components of the plant will be prepared for the transition to the new energy production technologies, based on hydrogen”, the minister said.
According to him, by signing this contract, a new step was taken for Romania’s energy independence.
