The first part of a new park opens in Bucharest on Thursday, June 1, on Children’s Day, with a program for the little ones. The final project includes bike lanes, basketball courts, skatepark, playground, dog space, drydeck fountain, hammocks and beanbag chairs.
Where is the new park opening in Bucharest
The new park in Bucharest, the first part of which will be opened on Children’s Day, is located in Militari, between Cora Lujerului and Gara Cotroceni.
“It will be 4.2 km long, along the former train line, which used to pass by APACA and by the whole Military Quarter” announced the City Hall of Sector 6, which stated that from June 1st it will be only the first part of this park, an area of 45,000 square meters, is open to the public.

A mayor from Bucharest, about the new park
The Mayor of Sector 6, Ciprian Ciucu, recently stated that this is the largest park opened in Bucharest since 1989, with an area of 5 hectares, phase I only.
“On June 1, I’m waiting for you in the park. It will be nice. No big fuss and pharaonic inaugurations. Just a simple program for the little ones.
Don’t forget what an urban disaster it was here. Industrial land, contaminated, a focus of infection. And one more good news. By the end of the year, phase II will be ready, another 2.5 hectares”, Ciprian Ciucu wrote on social networks a few days ago.
Finally, Liniei Park will stretch from Doina Cornea boulevard, located behind the AFI Cotroceni mall, to Valea Cascadei, on the former railway line on Liniei street, abandoned for 20 years.
Specifically, the former railway, which served several factories, and the adjacent land, on a width of 400 meters, are to be developed. The works on the first stage, between Cora Lujerului and Cotroceni Station, started in May of last year, and the deadline for completion was May 2023.
The metropolitan train could pass through the park
However, this railway would be used for the metropolitan train that was promised by the mayor of the Capital, Nicușor Dan, in the electoral campaign.
The mayor of Sector 6, Ciprian Ciucu, said that the works are reversible, and if the project related to the metropolitan train will be implemented, the benches and the rest of the facilities will be able to be erected.
“I make works that are perfectly reversible, I put benches, grass. I do not support the metropolitan train project, I consider it useless. Why? 200 meters, on bd. Iuliu Maniu is metro, on bd. Timisoara is a tram, we will extend the line over the Ring Road. Such an investment is not justified because I have alternatives”, said Ciprian Ciucu last year, according to HotNews.ro.
Ciprian Ciucu also said that the project related to the metropolitan train is impossible to realize in this mandate and that it would be a shame for this place to remain in disrepair until it is realized.
