The management of the Săpoca Psychiatric Hospital presented itself to the Ministry of Health with eight or nine bags full of Pleșcoi sausages, on May 23, before receiving a 10 in an evaluation of the manager’s activity and a change in organizational chart was approved, according to an investigation carried out by Free Europe Romania.
Pleșcoi sausages, an appreciated specialty in Buzău County, where the headquarters of the Psychiatric Hospital are also located, were allegedly bought and kept in the refrigerators of the medical unit, according to the photos and information provided by an integrity whistleblower.
According to this source, in the morning of May 23, the bags were placed in a hospital car, which then went to Bucharest. The economic director of the Săpoca Psychiatric Hospital, Oana Aurelia Anica, and a driver were allegedly in the car.
The journalists from Europa Liberă, who were warned that the car in which the Pleșcoi sausages were being transported was on the way, identified the car the same day, around noon, in the parking lot of the Ministry of Health.
They saw how the Pleșcoi sausages are moved from the plastic nets into more elegant paper bags and then taken to the ministry headquarters.
Economic director Oana Aurelia Anica would have carried two or three bags, while the driver made two trips to the headquarters to carry six bags.
Unofficial sources told Europa Liberă journalists that the director of the hospital would have visited Iuliana Costin, who is director of the Human Resources Department of the Ministry of Health.
The transport took place on the same day that representatives of the Sanitas union, which represents doctors, staged a protest in front of the ministry.
The same integrity whistleblower who signaled the fact that the Pleșcoi sausages were to be sent to the ministry later reported that on May 29, the manager of the Săpoca Psychiatric Hospital, Gabriela Piriu, announced that she received a 10 in the ministry’s activity evaluation. In addition, the organizational chart change he had requested was also approved.
The Minister of Health was not in the country when the Pleșcoi sausages arrived
According to Free Europe, the representatives of the Ministry of Health have not yet responded to the request in which they were asked to answer who received the delegation from the Săpoca Psychiatric Hospital and whether the Pleșcoi sausages were received.
The institution communicated, however, that the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, was not in the headquarters at that time, as he had left the country, in Geneva.
Also, the management of the Săpoca Psychiatric Hospital refused to comment on this move.
Săpoca Psychiatric Hospital is subordinated to the Ministry of Health. It is one of the four psychiatric hospitals in the country where people convicted in court, but who do not have discernment, are hospitalized.
