King Charles will miss Prince Harry’s visit to London, preferring hiking in Transylvania. He will be in Romania next week, while his youngest son, who has moved to California, will come to London to testify in the trial filed against the Mirror media group, writes The Telegraph quoted by news.ro.
The King will be absent during the Duke of Sussex’s visit to London next week as he plans to take a private trip to Transylvania. While his father will be in Romania, Prince Harry must return to the High Court in London in early June as he sued Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) over phone hacking allegations.
King Charles’ solo trip to Romania, planned for five days over the course of next week, will coincide with his son’s rare appearance in Britain, which means it is unlikely that the two will see each other, writes The Telegraph.
Harry is back in London after his extremely rushed visit to England earlier this month to attend his father’s coronation. The Duke of Sussex was then in such a hurry to get home to California that he was still wearing his medals and morning suit when he arrived at Heathrow Airport for his return flight.
When he arrived for the coronation, the Duke spent the night in Windsor at Frogmore Cottage, but did not see his older brother William, Prince of Wales, or speak to his father or his stepmother, the Queen Camilla, according to the British publication.
Previously, Prince Harry had made a trip to Britain at the end of March to file another complaint in court for wiretapping, this time against The Daily Mail. Even then he did not see the king, who was said to be too busy at his Highgrove residence.
What will King Charles do in Romania
Now, according to sources in The Telegraph, the king’s upcoming trip to Romania will take place next week, during which Charles will recuperate after the coronation and stay at his home in rural Transylvania. The Queen will not accompany him on this trip, preferring to remain at her home in Wiltshire.
During his annual visits to his beloved home in Transylvania, the king apparently likes to spend his days hiking in the hills and painting, and his evenings reading.
King Charles has been a long-time visitor to Romania, where he currently owns at least 10 properties, having bought his first property – an 18th-century Saxon house in the village of Viscri – in 2006. The countryside around his home of Viscri offers the nature-loving monarch the opportunity to take botanical tours and see wildflower meadows, as well as hiking and horse-riding trails.
There is no Wi-Fi, TV or radio on the royal estate, but the drawing room now has a “small hi-fi player with CDs”, writes The Telegraph.
Harry will testify in court
Meanwhile, Prince Harry is expected to give evidence in person at the trial against MGN in London early next week, where he will face former Mirror editor Piers Morgan, who has become one of its fiercest critics of the Sussex family. Proceedings in his complaint are expected to last three days, including opening statements and appearances in the witness box, when the Duke and MGN witnesses will be heard.
Prince Harry is one of a number of high-profile figures who have filed lawsuits seeking damages from the media group for alleged illegal information gathering.
At the beginning of the trial, MGN admitted that there was an illegal collection of information about the duke, for which it “apologizes without reservation”. However, MGN denies phone hacking. The group also stated that its past activities “justify compensation” in its case.
