In Roman times, the Geoagiu Baths were known as “Thermae Germisara” or “Germisara cum thermis”. The Roman thermal baths (Germisara) are preserved almost in the same form as in antiquity, being built in the current Geoagiu Bai locality, in a circular promontory with a diameter of 90-95 m. The baths functioned in two phases (Germisara and later Termele Dodonei ). In 1935, when digging the small pool in the current thermal water beach, the statues representing Aesculap (Aesculap) and Egeea (Hygeea) were unearthed, which testify to the intense life of those times. A temple dedicated to Nymphaea is also attested here, as well as deposits of altars, statues, coins and precious metal objects (seven gold votive plaques).
Thus, the Geoagiu-Băi resort is the ideal place if you want a combination of ancient thermal traditions and modern facilities, offering Romanians who arrive in the region a truly unique experience. If you want to plan a mini-vacation in the near future, we recommend that you note the location on the list.
