Game News Battlefield 2042 Season 5: One step closer to the shooter Hall of Fame?
As part of an event reserved for the press, we were able to discover the new features of Aube Nouvelle, Season 5 of Battlefield 2042… Is it time to come back to EA’s FPS? Answer.
Since its release in 2021, Battlefield 2042 has continued its slow and ambitious transformation. Remember, last year, the Electronic Arts FPS made a 180° turn, with the return of the famous classes (Assault, Scout, Support, Engineer). Also, the cards introduced two years ago are, little by little, the subject of a big makeover. As part of the Season 5 presentation, we learned that it is “Hourglass” which will soon be the subject of this transformation… The map located in Doha, plagued by sandstorms, will be smaller – to concentrate the action -, and will now host (among other things) fortified shelters and a new underground area! Season 5 of Battlefield 2042, dubbed “New Dawn”, will land on June 7, and Hourglass 2.0 will be available “later”.

It’s not the only new card! For almost two hours, we were able to discover Reclaimed, based in the icy landscapes of the Czech Republic. As usual, several areas are on the program: crash site with a derailed train; natural arena-like landing zone; abandoned industrial shed; military warehouse; bunker located in a mountain; and – finally – the silo with its four central towers. A fairly tight map with plenty of action.
We were thus able to play a game in Breakthrough mode (where you have to attack as you go through specific points on the map) and Conquest, classic capture of the flag. Yes, the sensations were better on the second part, more dynamic and less fixed – but Reclaimed made a very good impression on us in any case. Its points of interest offer varied situations: verticality, the vanishing lines of the hangar, the silo; the clashes closer to the crash site | from the bunker. Without forgetting some well-designed covers… We enjoyed discovering these subtleties.

Some nice new stuff
As good news never comes alone… this Season 5 has other novelties in stock. Beyond a 2.0 interface to manage the squad, we are entitled to brand new gadgets – three grenades: the “Spring Grenade”, which rises in the air before activating; THE “Mini-Grenade”, which can be sent further and faster than other explosives (you can also carry more of them); THE “AT Grenade” – anti-tank bombs – which burst at the slightest impact with a vehicle.
Even if, in 1h30, it is difficult to assess the potential of the first two grenades – the third will undoubtedly be decisive in your next games (on Reclaimed, the silo | the hangar is teeming with armored vehicles). Finally, this grip was an opportunity to discover new weapons, including the GEW 46, an assault rifle, and the BFP.50, Desert Eagle type handgun. On this point, not much to say: even if it seemed to us to notice a slight lack of impact, the weapons deliver a very satisfying feeling. Note that new toys from Portal mode will join the customizable options of Vault Weapons, such as the M16A3, the ACW-R, the A91, the M41 as well as the AEK-971.
