In an unprecedented gesture, cancer patients will take to the streets after the Minister of Health launched a new anti-cancer Plan, instead of applying the one already promulgated 7 months ago. The plan already approved by law in Parliament should have come into force on July 1. A month before, however, the institution led by Alexandru Rafila launches a new Cancer Plan.
Cezar Irimia, president of the Federation of Associations of Cancer Patients in Romania, told Digi24 that if the rules of the existing plan are not implemented by July 1, the federation will sue the Ministry of Health.
“Minister Rafila considers himself above the law, he violates the Constitution. We have waited 22 years for this plan. We defend at all costs this national plan that would have made our lives easier as patients.
We had a national plan that integrated us into the EU in the fight against cancer. What Alexandru Rafila is presenting now will take us out of the EU, and the inequalities between us and European citizens will escalate.
The plan called for streaming programs that get patients to go for check-ups and get cancer caught early. What Rafila is doing now deepens the death rates in Romania. He signs the death certificates of cancer patients.
On July 1, if the rules are not implemented, we will take the ministry to court and we will protest in the street,” declared Irimia.
