The reason the Tate brothers were arrested
Brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested following searches that took place on December 29, 2022, in Bucharest and Ilfov County, at the homes owned by them, but also by their two accomplices. Later, at the beginning of January, seven other searches took place in Bucharest, Ilfov and Prahova in the case in which they are being investigated.
“In fact, the 4 suspected persons (two British citizens and two Romanian citizens) would have constituted an organized criminal group, for the purpose of recruitment, accommodation and exploitation, by forcing some women to create materials with pornographic content, intended for distribution on the website profiles. From these activities, he would have obtained important sums of money.
The injured persons would have been recruited by British citizens by misleading them about the intention to establish a marriage/cohabitation relationship and the existence of real feelings of love (the loverboy method).
They would have been later transported and housed in buildings in Ilfov county where, by exercising acts of physical violence and mental coercion (through intimidation, constant surveillance, control and invoking alleged debts),
would have been sexually exploited by the members of the group by forcing them to perform pornographic manifestations in order to produce and disseminate through social media platforms material having such a character and by subjecting them to the execution of work, in a forced manner, in order to obtain important financial benefits , consisting of the sums of money obtained as a result of accessing the materials by the users”, stated the IGPR.
Six injured persons who were sexually exploited by the organized criminal group were identified.
