A customer had a shocking surprise in one of the most famous supermarkets in Romania. On one of the shelves, he discovered moldy sandwiches for sale.
The man immediately alerted the employees of the Profi store in Piatra Neamț. He filmed the incident, posting the footage online as a warning to people. Shortly after, Consumer Protection self-referred to this case, a check was made in the Profi store in question.
Following the checks, the CJPC commissioners discovered that the products were kept at a temperature of over 19 degrees Celsius.
“On 26.05.2023, the commissioners from the CJPC Neamț proceeded to the immediate verification of the products on sale on the date of the control and, in the presence of the representative of the economic operator, found that the products were displayed in the presentation windows without respecting the storage temperature of the products recommended by the manufacturer (the recorded temperature was 19.5 gr C / the recommended temperature was 0-4 gr C / 0-7 gr C)”, the inspectors sent.

What sanctions were applied
Control brought to light several irregularities. The temperature prescribed by law, 60 degrees Celsius, was not respected even in the hot food showcase, the products were kept at 51-55 degrees.
Following the detected irregularities, the store received three sanctions, totaling 15,000 lei, and the products in the two showcases were withdrawn from sale.
“Along with the sanction, the complementary measure of withdrawal of all units of the product for sale displayed in the display windows, in the amount of 1109 lei, and the complementary measure of temporarily stopping the provision of services at the display windows registered with deficiencies was ordered.
