After years of tumultuous development and controversy, the war game Six Days in Fallujah will finally be available for Early Access on Steam starting June 22, 2023.
A one-of-a-kind hardcore FPS
This title aims to tell the story of the second battle of Fallujah which took place in 2004, highlighting different points of view, both from the side of the American troops fighting the Iraqi insurgents and that of the civilians living in the city. .
Six Days in Fallujah will offer players four co-op missions in Early Access. These missions will take place on city maps generated procedurally in each game. Publisher Victura said these missions will focus on the experiences of US Marine sapper teams on the first day of battle. As Early Access progresses, new features will be added, including the ability to play co-op as special ops or Iraqi soldiers alongside coalition forces.
Victura also announced plans to launch campaign missions recreating actual events from the battle. The final version of the game is scheduled for release on consoles and PC in 2024.
Interestingly, Six Days in Fallujah was originally supposed to be released by Konami over a decade ago, but the project was scrapped in 2009 due to the controversy surrounding the game. both from military veterans and peace groups.
However, the project was revived in 2017 when Victura, the publisher founded by the CEO of original developer Atomic Games, announced that the game was once again in development at Highwire Games. This development studio was co-founded by Bungie veterans Jaimie Griesemer and Marty O’Donnell.
Victura faced another controversy in February 2021, when its CEO Peter Tamte said in an interview that he was not seeking to take a position on the political question of whether the war itself was good or bad. bad idea. However, the publisher quickly responded the following month, releasing a statement acknowledging that the events of Six Days in Fallujah are “indistinguishable from politics” and explaining its willingness to tell the game’s story from different points of view.
The arrival of Six Days in Fallujah in Early Access is causing both excitement and apprehension in the gaming community. Players will soon have the opportunity to discover for themselves this immersive experience which seeks to tackle delicate subjects related to war and armed conflict, while adopting a multi-narrative approach. The game will arrive later on consoles but we will still have to be patient.
