Who is Sergiu Ciobotariu and how did he become known
In 2020, Sergiu Ciobotariu, from Iași, stunned the whole country with his gesture. The young man rode 40 kilometers to visit his life partner who was hospitalized, under the circumstances in which she had just given birth to a child. After the event in question, which became viral, he received the nickname “the horse rider”.
The Romanians were deeply impressed by what happened. K1 fighter Cătălin Moroșanu opened a humanitarian campaign, many citizens donating money so that Sergiu Ciobotariu and his family can live in a decent house. The situation they were in was a precarious one from every point of view.
With the money from the donations, Cătălin Moroșanu managed to buy the “horseman dad” a house where he only lived for a few months. Later, the young man decided to sell the property received as a gift and return to the ghetto, where he was used to. His gesture sparked many controversies in the public space.

“We are shocked and disappointed by the fact that Sergiu chose to treat a good deed like this. We are disappointed as it puts the future of 3 children at risk. 3 souls who could benefit from a normal life and education to not go through the same hardships as their parents.
If it’s a mistake that we all got involved to give a chance at a better life? Of course not. We are reconciled before God that we wanted to do good. At the same time, it is a teaching of the mind. We will not stop doing good deeds, but we will go on the premise «give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him to fish and he will have food for the rest of his life.”, reacted Cătălin Moroșanu.
What was chosen by Sergiu, the “riding dad” from Iași
After Sergiu Ciobotariu sold his home, things did not evolve positively for him at all. He returned to the ghetto, and, according to the local press, having no stable job and left without help, he started “business”. On some Sundays, he goes with his life partner to Talcioc, where he rents a stall and sells all kinds of items. The people of Iași say that some seem to be collected from the garbage, but this aspect does not confuse their plans.
The “rider dad” from Iași did not stop here, however. After kicking basically all the help he got, he also got into trouble with the law enforcement. Sergiu Ciobotariu was criminally investigated, after he was stopped in traffic by the police. He was driving a VW Golf without a driver’s license.
“I heard in the village that the police caught him behind the wheel. At one point he had a Golf in the yard, and later I saw a Range Rover. Sergiu is no longer the same,” said a neighbor of the young man, according to BZI.ro.
Later, the “rider dad” was detained by the authorities after assaulting a man, along with two other friends. Because one of his “brothers” might have had a conflict with him, the young man thought to teach him a lesson, so he took clubs and axes and entered the victim’s house, which he severely beat.
