The Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, made important statements about the teachers’ strike, which is increasingly affecting students. The official stated that action must be taken immediately, because the absence of teachers from the department has a negative influence on the upcoming national exams. What proposals does the Ministry of Education have for unions.
What is happening with the national exams
Minister Ligia Deca sounded the alarm for teachers, asking them to return to their classrooms as soon as possible. If the strike continues and students do not return to school, national exams are at risk. There are only a few days left until the 8th grade students take the National Assessment and those who finish high school take the Baccalaureate.
If the strike does not stop, the calendar of exam dates must be changed quickly. The official claims that the students will know something for sure on June 9, which means that the teachers also have to make a decision by then.
The period in which the students’ status can be completed has already been extended, as well as the period in which those in the twelfth grade can register for the baccalaureate. Ligia Deca asks the teachers to think about the fate of the students and return to the schools.
“It’s very important, in order to stay on this schedule, that we all get back into the classrooms next week. In the context in which this will not happen, we will have to think about extending the period of closing the school situation and rescheduling the national exams.
Considering the importance of all students being able to take their secondary or high school final exams, we ask the teaching staff to help us finish this year in good conditions”, said Ligia Deca on Friday.
What proposals does the Government have for teachers?
The government has taken action regarding the fate of the teachers and the wages they are protesting for. More precisely, it established, by emergency ordinance, an increase of 1,000 gross lei per month for teaching and auxiliary teaching staff and, respectively, of 400 gross lei per month for non-teaching staff.

- management bonus, of 10%,
- the allowance for simultaneous education,
- allowance for isolated areas,
- increased neuropsychic overload,
