When a Miami businessman was looking for new images for his new project, he called a photographer and he “fixed it” a few hours later.
Of course, the images were generated by artificial intelligence, and Dade Sokoloff told PetaPixel they were “exactly what he wanted.”
“If you really studied them, you could tell they weren’t real, but they’re damn close. They were 100% usable”, he also said, according to the previously cited source.
Sokoloff also stated that he would have used the AI images entirely, except that he had a very specific idea of what he wanted.
What the photographer wanted to demonstrate
The photographer, whose name is Buster Cox, owns a small production company in Miami that mainly deals with business and branding content and is the one who “created” the images.
“It’s an interesting take on this type of business,” Sokoloff said.
“I see the very real and present threat to artisanal and long-standing industries, but also to millions of businesses that would not normally be able to afford quality content and who will suddenly be able to reach all the new levels of production value”, he added.
“Of course, it’s a paradigm shift. But in many ways, I feel the biggest threat is not learning how to use these tools in the first place,” it also noted.
The exchange between Sokoloff and Cox is just a microcosm of what’s going on in the photography space in general. Professionals like Cox will definitely need to master these tools as soon as possible in order to stay in the industry.
AI image generators like Midjourney really do need to be learned, as much as we might be bothered by that aspect. Unfortunately, AI can’t be stopped at this point, so we just have to adapt.
