Huge rally in Belgrade, one month after the school massacre, which shocked the whole country. Opposition parties brought tens of thousands of people to the streets in the Serbian capital. They came with flags, icons and placards with slogans against the current government. There are also some Romanian flags in the crowd.
Tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Belgrade on Saturday, for the fifth time.
United under the slogan “Serbia against violence”, demonstrators have taken to the streets of the capital Belgrade every week since the assassinations committed at the beginning of May, in an interval of less than 48 hours, reports Agerpres.
“I am here for each of us, especially my children. So that they don’t need to prove, but to be able to live and work in their country, as it should be,” protester Bojana Popovic, a 33-year-old mathematician, told AFP.
On May 3, a 13-year-old boy killed nine classmates and a guard at a school in Belgrade. Less than 48 hours after this attack, a young man killed eight people in two villages near the capital.
People demonstrated at first as a sign of mourning, but the protest later turned into a vast movement of anger against the power of the country’s president, Aleksandar Vucic.
The demonstrators are demanding the revocation of the licenses of pro-government television stations that broadcast violent content and accuse the government of creating or tolerating a “climate of violence” in Serbia. I also demand the resignation of the Minister of the Interior and the head of the Intelligence Services.
