In the middle of the general strike in education, Târgu Jiu organizes award ceremonies for graduates of secondary, high school and post-high school education, even though many students have not completed their education. The announcement was made on Facebook by the mayor of the city, Marcel Romanescu, who also published the program of the event.
Award ceremony during the general strike
“The award ceremonies for graduates of secondary, high school and post-high school education begin on Tuesday, June 6. Every evening, from 19:00, until Wednesday, June 14, the educational units of Târgu Jiu will present their graduates in ceremonies dedicated to them”, Mayor Marcel Romanescu announced on his Facebook page.
In the message posted on Monday, the mayor does not make any reference to the educational strike in which teachers from Gorj also participate. According to the latest data announced today by Ligia Deca, the Minister of Education – 53% of school employees are still on strike.
The situation was initially reported by Gorjean journalist Narcis Daju on his Facebook page. Also yesterday, on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the mayor showed his respect for the work done by the teachers.
“It is not enough, however, because teachers must be valued at their true value and in terms of salary. And although I agree that they deserve to be paid better, I believe, at the same time, that they should be remunerated according to performance, according to the results that the students achieve.
We do this at Târgu Jiu: we recognize the value of teachers whose students achieve outstanding results”, Romanescu said.
Contacted by the publication Playtech.ro, the mayor did not offer a point of view regarding the organization of the ceremony in the midst of a strike.
