The representatives of the parents, the students and the unions in Education discussed with the Minister of Education about the calendar of the national exams on Tuesday. Ligia Deca stated that, since the adoption of the ordinance on teachers’ salary increases until now, 15 thousand people from the educational system have given up the strike, ten thousand of whom are teachers, stating that in over a thousand school units no person don’t go on strike. At the same time, the minister says that on Wednesday he will resume discussions with the trade union federations.
“We can announce that, at this moment, since the adoption of the ordinance until today, we have about 15,000 people working in education who have given up the strike, of which more than 10,000 are teaching staff. At the moment, we have more than 1,000 educational units where no one goes on strike”, emphasizes Ligia Deca. “It is a proof of confidence of the teaching staff in the measures taken by the Government”, appreciates the Minister of Education.
Deca stated that there are counties where the percentage of those on strike is very small, but also counties where 80% of employees are still protesting. “For example, we have counties that have around 25% participation from the total staff – I am referring here to Prahova and we also have counties where the participation is still quite high, for example Hunedoara, where it is somewhere around 80%”, he added declared the minister.
Deca says the trend is down. “What makes us happy is the downward trend, it is clear that slowly, slowly, teachers are returning to classes, staff are returning to schools and this allows us, as we discussed with the school inspectors since yesterday, that at the level of each educational unit a recovery program can be organized, so that, until the end of the courses and until the end of the school year, we can have both an educational recovery and people can recover the days they will not have been paid in the salary for the month of May, as a result of the protest actions”, said Deca.
Asked how many teaching staff are still on strike, the Minister of Education showed that, on June 6, the morning centralization, until 10:00, showed that “we have a total percentage of personnel participating in the strike of 52.8%, 52.9 % and the percentage of teaching staff among them, participants, 59.4%”. “The situation compared to May 31, the total percentage of personnel participating in the strike on May 31 was 58%, and the percentage of teachers participating in the strike was 64%, before June 1 when the Emergency Ordinance was adopted,” he added the minister.
Ligia Deca also announced that the number of schools that completely abandoned the strike is 170, between May 31 and June 6.
Ligia Deca also specified that there will be discussions with the unions during Wednesday, in the context of the negotiation of the collective labor contract in the education sector. “We will resume these discussions with the trade union federations tomorrow and, in the context of other measures that the Government will take, I am referring here to the negotiations on the salary law, we will be able to see a return to the classroom of teachers”, added the Minister of Education .
The Minister of Education, Ligia Deca, announced last Friday that if teachers do not return to classes this week, the Baccalaureate and National Assessment exams will be rescheduled. “We have extended the period for the conclusion of secondary school exams until June 9, as well as the period of registration for the Baccalaureate. The National Assessment starts on June 19, the Baccalaureate on June 12. It is very important, in order to stay in this calendar, that the teachers return to the classrooms (…). If this does not happen, we will have to think about extensions for closing school situations and rescheduling exams,” said Ligia Deca.
