The body found in the chest of a sofa in an apartment in the Capital is that of a 12-year-old girl, the investigators announce. After genetic testing, it was found that the victim’s DNA is the same as the father’s.
Andreea Georgescu, Digi24 journalist: The prosecutors coordinating the investigation in this case announced that they succeeded with the help of genetic tests requested at the Institute of Forensic Medicine to establish the identity of the body found over the weekend in an apartment in Sector 4 of the capital. It is about a 12-year-old girl who was reported missing by her father since the beginning of May, according to our information, for almost a month. The girl’s mother is also currently missing.
According to our information, the woman’s life partner lived in the apartment in question. The girl’s parents had been separated for a long time, and since the beginning of May, the dead girl’s father had reported missing both his ex-wife and their 12-year-old daughter.
The woman lived with her partner and the girl in the rented apartment in Sector 4 of the Capital where the body was.
It’s an ongoing investigation that’s taking a major turn. Investigators initially believed that the lifeless body that had been hidden in that piece of furniture for several weeks was that of the missing woman. Genetic tests disproved this hypothesis and unfortunately we are talking about the body of the 12-year-old girl. There is important evidence from the autopsy that shows the girl was murdered.
Further investigations are being carried out to locate the woman but also to locate her partner. Initially, there were reports that the man had left the country for a long time, around the same time that the woman could no longer be contacted by her ex-husband.
From our information, based on the sources, there are different procedures when we are talking about a child missing without being accompanied by one of the parents or, as in this case, where we are talking about parents who no longer lived together, who were divorced and the fact that the father to the girl, the ex-husband of the woman who is also missing went to the Police and claimed that he was no longer able to get in touch with any of them. This could also be the reason why we understand that the two do not appear in the “Followed persons” section, as is the case with a missing child, for example.
According to the information from the investigation, the main lead of the Police is that the girl’s mother is an accomplice. She would not have complained about the situation to cover the concubine. According to the cited sources, the two would have left the country together, most likely by land. However, the possibility that the woman is dead is not excluded either.
The two were working abroad.
The parents had a verbal understanding. When the woman was in the country, the girl stayed with her, the sources from the investigation also show.
The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court of Justice states in a statement issued on Tuesday: “On 06.06.2023, based on the conclusions of the forensic genetic examination carried out by the National Institute of Criminology, it was established that the deceased person, found in a plastic bag in the crate on the sofa of a house in the municipality of Bucharest, sector 4, is a 12-year-old minor, the identification taking place by comparing the genetic profile of the corpse with the genetic profile of the minor’s father. To the extent that other data relevant to the investigation will be obtained, they will be made public as deemed necessary. The investigations are being continued by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court and the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest – Homicide Service”.
The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court filed an ex officio case and started the criminal investigation regarding the crime of murder in the case of the woman found in the couch drawer. “On 03.06.2023, the police of Section 16 were alerted by the owner of an apartment in the city of Bucharest, Sector 4, regarding the fact that, after the departure of some tenants, he found a plastic bag in the chest of the sofa, emitting an odor of putrefaction. The Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court filed a complaint ex officio and started the criminal investigation regarding the crime of murder. On the dates of 3 and 4.06.2023, the criminal prosecutor, police officers from the Homicide Service and those from the Forensic Service carried out the on-site investigation, several pieces of evidence were collected to be used in the case”, it is stated in a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court, quoted by Agerpres.
According to him, on June 3, the plastic bag was transported to the “Mina Minovici” National Institute of Forensic Medicine, where it was opened, finding that “inside was the body of a female person, in a state of putrefaction. The medico-legal autopsy determined that the death of the unidentified female person was violent.”
On June 5 and 6, forensic genetic expertise was ordered to establish the DNA genetic profile of the corpse, expertise carried out by the National Institute of Forensics.
The investigations and checks covered all the hypotheses considered, as well as the establishment of the victim’s identity, in which several witnesses were heard, the Prosecutor’s Office states. “Several hypotheses regarding the identity of the victim and regarding the identity of the alleged perpetrator have been circulated in the public space, but these, although they are taken into account in the investigation, can currently neither be confirmed nor denied, since the body is considered, next, an unidentified one. The investigations are being continued by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court and the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest – Homicide Service”, the press release states.
