Russia would be preparing a terrorist attack to divert attention from the destruction of the Kahovka dam and sow mistrust between Ukraine and its allies, according to sources in the Ukrainian military intelligence services quoted by the Kiev media.
Who would be the target of the “terrorist attack” prepared by Russia
According to the publication Ukrainska Pravda, which cited sources within the Ukrainian military intelligence services, Russia’s target would be its gas transportation system. Later, Moscow would blame Ukraine.
Russia would have adjusted the pressure in several compression stations of their gas pipelines. Intelligence sources pointed out that this is a sign of preparations for a staged terrorist attack against main pipelines or other critical gas infrastructure sites.
Moscow’s intention is to use this attack to distract attention from the destruction of the Kahovka dam and to sow mistrust between Ukraine and its allies.
Danger at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, due to the destruction of the Kahovka dam
The operator of the Kahovka dam in southern Ukraine announced on Thursday that the water level in the reservoir no longer allows cooling the reactors of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
“The water level has fallen below the critical threshold of 12.7 meters and is no longer sufficient to feed the pools of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant for cooling operations,” announced the director of the Ukrainian operator Ukrhydroenergo, Igor Sîrota.
The Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, announced at the beginning of the week that the water can no longer be pumped if its level drops below the 12.7 meter threshold.
Rafael Grossi also said that a large cooling basin near the facility is “currently full and contains enough water reserves to power the plant for several months, because the plant’s six reactors are shut down.”
