News culture House of the Dragon season 2: HBO teases a new kind of battle for the Game of Thrones spin-off
Season 2 of House of the Dragon is being filmed and little information is coming to us in dribs and drabs. After a tragic death, it is an epic battle of a completely different kind that seems to be confirmed.
House of the Dragon, an action-packed season 2
And Game of Thrones was a great series, its spin-off is nothing to feel ashamed of. House of the Dragon lived up to the original series. Whether it’s thanks to her sets, her costumes, her writing and her actors, she even gave us a few moments of anthology. Unsurprisingly, we therefore look forward to the continuation of the adventures of Rhaenyra and the others. Especially since serious things will finally be able to begin. If season 1 allowed a good start, the next one will mark the beginning of the famous Dance of the Dragons.

Series House of the Dragon exists only to tell this event which deeply marked Westeros. To quickly summarize the Dance of the Dragons, it is the name given to the war of succession which takes place after the death of Viserys I. It opposes two camps that we have seen build up over the course of the episodes: the Blacks (behind Rhaenyra) and the Greens (behind Alicent). And given what happened in the last episode, you will have understood that war is now declared. If season 2 should start with the search for new alliances (as season 1 ended by the way), we can therefore expect a number of epic battles and, unfortunately, tragic scenes.

Finally a naval battle?

Regarding the battles, the person in charge of the direction of the stunts, Rowley Irlam, has precisely specified two or three small things with our colleagues from The Hollywood Reporter : “We always want to do bigger and better – but without repeating ourselves.” This therefore involves new ways of understanding the battles in the series. And that’s good because during the Dance of the Dragons a battle of another kind is supposed to take place: the Battle of the Gosier. It is one of the deadliest naval battles in the history of the continent of Westeros. We will not tell you more for the moment, but if you are not afraid of the spoil you can easily find information on the latter on the Internet (or in the book Fire and Blood Of course). If we forget the battle between the Greyjoys in season 7 of Game of Throneswe have never seen a naval battle in Westeros. Irlam takes this novelty as a real challenge:
We want to expand our repertoire to include a major naval battle. You can shoot a naval battle in a parking lot, but that won’t necessarily make it the same. Especially since there’s a big tub of water in Leavesden. If we’re going to make one, I think it’s best to turn it in a vat. But we’ll see what happens.
Note that during this interview, the guy also shared an unlikely anecdote about the filming of season 1. Can you guess what was the most complicated stunt scene to shoot so far on House of the Dragon? No, it’s not an aerial phase or an epic battle, but the quarrel between the children in episode 7. According to Irlam, managing children from 9 to 13 throughout a fight scene, even a small one, is particularly difficult. They had to train hard and secure their backs as much as possible: “it was really fun but a lot of work.”
