The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation reacted to the request of the Romanian MFA to reduce the diplomatic staff working in the Russian Embassy in Bucharest by 40 people and stated that “Russia will respond accordingly”.
“Russia will respond accordingly,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said in a press statement quoted by APA, the news agency, by the Azerbaijan news agency.
The reaction comes in the context in which the ambassador of the Russian Federation in Bucharest Valeri Kuzmin was informed about the decision of the Romanian authorities to reduce the diplomatic and technical-administrative staff of the Russian Federation in Romania by limiting their number to a level close to that of the diplomatic representation and technical-administrative of Romania in the Russian Federation, announced the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Thus, Russia must reduce the number of positions in Romania by 51 positions, namely by 21 diplomat positions and by 30 technical-administrative personnel positions, respectively by reducing the personnel actually at the position in our country by 40 people – i.e. with 11 diplomats and 29 people who are part of the technical-administrative staff, according to News.ro.
The Russian side was informed that it has a maximum of 30 days to implement the decision of the Romanian side, and if this deadline is not respected, the Romanian MFA will take measures to implement the decision by withdrawing the accreditation of some staff members.
