The National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) issued, on Saturday, June 10, a CODE ORANGE flood warning in several counties in the country. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) published, for its part, two alerts of phenomena specific to atmospheric instability.
CODE ORANGE for flooding in several counties
Alert issued by the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA). At the time of writing, a CODE ORANGE flood warning is in effect for eight watersheds.
Until Sunday, 00:00, the rivers Tur (Satu Mare county), Someşul Mic (Cluj county), Someş (counties: Cluj, Sălaj, Maramureş and Satu Mare), Lăpuş (Maramureş county), Crasna (counties: Sălaj and Satu Mare), Crişul Repede (Cluj and Bihor counties), Bega (Timiş county) and Pogăniş (Caraș Severin county) are affected by sudden increases in water levels.
Also until Sunday, at 00:00, a YELLOW flood CODE is in force for certain river sectors in the counties: Alba, Arad, Argeş, Cluj, Bihor, Bistriţa-Năsăud, Braşov, Caraş Severin, Dâmboviţa, Gorj, Harghita, Hunedoara, Maramureş, Mehedinţi, Mureş, Neamţ, Prahova, Satu Mare, Sibiu, Suceava, Timiș and Vâlcea.
As a result of the important leaks on the slopes, torrents and streams, in the mentioned time interval, the defense quotas can be exceeded, INHGA representatives informed. There is also the risk of producing dangerous hydrological phenomena on the lower level tributaries of the above-mentioned rivers.
ANM has issued CODE ORANGE of torrential showers
At the same time, the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued, on Saturday, two weather alerts for specific phenomena of temporarily heightened atmospheric instability and torrential downpours.
Until Saturday, June 10, at 21:00, meteorologists announce torrential showers in the counties: Satu Mare, Maramureș, Sălaj, Cluj, Bistrița-Năsăud, Mureș, Hunedoara, Caraș-Severin counties and the mountain area of Bihor, Arad, Timiș, Sibiu and Alba.
The mentioned territories are subject to CODE ORANGE for torrential downpours. Locally, amounts of water will reach 40 liters per square meter and, isolated, over 50 liters per square meter in short time intervals of one to three hours.
Specific phenomena of atmospheric instability will be reported in Banat, Crișana, Maramureș, Transylvania, the west and north of Oltenia, the north-west of Moldova and Muntenia. The CODE YELLOW weather alert will remain in effect until Saturday, June 10, at 11:00 p.m. Torrential showers, accompanied by electrical discharges and isolated hail are expected in the mentioned areas.
Wind gusts will also intensify, but for short periods of time. In some areas, the wind will take the form of gales. In short periods of time or through accumulation, the amounts of water will reach 25 liters per square meter and, in isolation, more than 30 liters per square meter.
ANM representatives stated that in the coming days, atmospheric instability will be accentuated in most territories.
