The parents of some students from Sector 4 in Bucharest learned at a meeting that they have to pay approximately 2,500 – 3,000 lei for the renovation of the classroom where their children will learn starting in the fall. Some of them notified the authorities.
Money requested from parents for classroom renovation
A teacher informed the parents during a meeting that the room where the students who will start the preparatory class in the fall will learn is completely empty, so it must be completely renovated and equipped.
“He showed us the classroom, he told us that this room will be empty, we won’t have benches, we won’t have chairs, we won’t have a blackboard, we won’t have anything, but four walls. We have to paint the classroom, carpet the floor, he wants a vacuum cleaner.
The parents determined that all these are costs between 2,500 and 3,000 lei. The lady said that there are no funds from the school and that the parents have to do.
The lady said she doesn’t know what’s going on (with the students whose parents can’t afford to pay, no), but that we have to do it,” said one of the parents, according to euronews.ro.
Two camps among parents
Following this announcement made by the teacher, two camps were formed on the group of parents – those who dispute this illegal practice, in the context in which the practice of the class fund is no longer legal in the country; respectively those who are willing to contribute financially for the arrangement of the classroom for their children.
“Teacher, I also have a question… Does the school not provide anything from what was discussed yesterday at the meeting? What does it give us but 4 walls? And the rest let’s put new money to buy them? Doesn’t it provide us with even a necessary minimum?”
“We get a laptop from school. The town hall does not provide furniture for step by step classes. At the open day, the situation was explained to you”, answered the teacher.
The Bucharest School Inspectorate reported that a complaint was filed last week regarding this case and that an investigation was launched at the school.
