News culture One of the most influential French politicians hacks with Netflix in this fiction series
This controversial biopic project is finally about to land on Netflix. the trailer shared by the platform a few days ago suggests a series as exciting as it is ambitious. And it’s French.
A controversial biopic
Presented earlier in the year, the biopic dedicated to Bernard Tapie is finally about to be released on Netflix. The mini-series promises to return to the journey of this man of a thousand facets, who was a businessman, actor, president of the Olympique de Marseille club and who even joined the French government as Minister of City.
Bernard Tapie was a controversial French figure and his biopic is just as much. Shortly before his death, when he got wind of this project, he immediately opposed it, as reported by Tristan Séguéla, the creator of the series, last April.
I ran into him and told him that I wanted to do a series about him. His reaction was simple, he said to me: ‘I’ll stop you right away, it’s no! To which I replied that I had not come to ask his authorization but simply to warn him that I was going to tackle it. I could have stopped there, of course, but if there is one thing on which Tapie inspired me, it is not to limit myself to this kind of warning. He himself wouldn’t have taken it into account.

Coming soon to Netflix
Despite the refusal of Bernard Tapie, then that of his wife Dominique Tapie, this biopic will indeed see the light of day soon on Netflix. Laurent Lafitte holds the title role, while Joséphine Japy, Fabrice Luchini, Camille Chamoux Antoine Reinartz or Hakim Jemili are present in the casting of this French production.
As stated by the showrunner as well as the lead actor, Tapie will be heavily fictionalized, a feature immediately seen within the trailer shared by Netflix two days ago. The series promises to return to the course of this implacable man, from his beginnings as a businessman, his arrival at the head of OM and the European coronation of the club, his links with the French power, his setbacks with justice… in short, a real epic that already promises to be exciting. To be found from September 13th.
