Tragedy in the resort of Mamaia, after a man on vacation drowned while in the water on Monday morning. Resuscitation efforts by SMURD lifeguards and medics failed to bring him back to life. What happened in the water
A tragic incident occurred on Monday morning in the resort of Mamaia, resulting in the death of a 70-year-old man by drowning. The victim was relatively quickly pulled out of the water by a lifeguard, receiving immediate medical assistance from him, and later from SMURD teams.
Unfortunately, the man did not respond to resuscitation maneuvers, being declared dead. Witnesses said that the man would have entered the sea to fill a bottle with water, but he did not return, there being suspicions regarding a possible medical condition. Daniel Lopătaru, the lifeguard in charge of the intervention, stated what happened at the scene.
While these operations were being carried out, the man’s wife noticed the incident and ran crying to the lifeguard. Heartbroken, this tragic incident leaves the local community stunned and draws attention to the importance of following safety measures around water.
“We pulled him out of the water, and at that moment a tourist notified the SMURD team, and we started resuscitation maneuvers. The incident happened approximately 10-15 meters from the shore, in an area where the depth of the water was not great, reaching up to my abdomen.
A woman told us the man went into the water at around 7.10am to fill a water bottle and she believed he had returned to the beach. Only when I was bringing him to the shore, I noticed her running towards me and crying, at which point I realized that she was his wife,” said the lifeguard.
