Apocalyptic images from Greece, due to the fires
Greece has been burning for days, and the terrible fires seem to have no end. In the island of Rhodes, a huge wildfire, out of control, forced local authorities to evacuate several areas, including two tourist resorts.
The authorities have evacuated more than 30,000 people in the last hours, they were forced to leave their homes or hotels and were told by a message to 112 to head to the city of Rhodes.
Three Coast Guard vessels, an Army lifeboat, a special forces inflatable boat and 30 private sailboats assisted in the evacuation. A private shipping company also offered one of its ships to accommodate some of the evacuees.
The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs opened a crisis cell in Athens
“The biggest evacuation in the history of the country”, declared the police in Greece, and the images are truly apocalyptic. Moreover, more and more images are circulating on social networks with areas engulfed in flames, black smoke and fleeing tourists.
The Greek Foreign Ministry opened a crisis cell in Athens to facilitate the repatriation of foreign tourists. Next, temperatures of over 44 degrees are expected in Greece, which makes the work of firefighters even more difficult.
