National TV is going through a difficult period, and Indian series are the only ones that manage to keep the station afloat. Indian soap operas first appeared on the small screen 15 years ago for a simple reason: “too long news consumed too many resources.”
National TV is going through a difficult period
In an interview given to Pagina de media, Dan Diaconu, director of National TV programs and, since April and CEO, said the Micula brothers group is going through a difficult period.
For this reason, two scenarios are taken into account for the TV station. The first consists in returning to own productions. However, this would be quite difficult to achieve due to the very small human resources. The second scenario consists of playing Indian movies and series.
“There is also the scenario of returning to our own productions. But related to these productions themselves, human resources are very small. So, if we want to have new productions again, we will have to go to the market.
But only when we know what budget we have will it be clear whether it is worth making new productions internally or externally. But, if we decide at some point to have a talk show again, it will certainly be internal, a talk show does not lend itself to being done externally. But for entertainment (entertainment, no) things are different”, declared Dan Diaconu.
The post has gone through a series of restructurings. It seems that the Miezul problemei show was interrupted in December, when the presenter, Denis Ciulinaru decided to leave the group. Meanwhile, other productions were released, such as the entertainment show Start Show, which was presented by Diana Matei and Adrian Enache.

Not only National TV went through a series of restructuring, but also the sister station Favorit TV.
“It is a very difficult moment. We no longer make our own productions or purchases. We use what we have, we rely on Indian series and films”.

“Purchases of Indian series will continue”
Indian films and series are among the achievements that Dan Diaconu can boast of.
“The decision to buy Indian soap operas, for the first time in Romania. Yours forever (Banoo Main Teri Dulhann, produced by ZEE TV, no) was the first Indian telenovela ever broadcast in Romania. It was broadcast by the National TV station from the beginning of 2009 until July 2010. Also in 2009, we also started broadcasting the Indian series In search of happiness (Ghar ek sapna, no.),” declared Dan Diaconu.
Despite the problems, the station will continue to buy Indian films and series.
“The official answer for our loyal fans and viewers is this: the Naţional TV audience was not impacted. The faithful are those who watch soap operas. And acquisitions of Indian series will continue and we try to continue to be the most relevant here.”
