The soloist Călin Geambașu spoke to us, exclusively for Playtech News, about the emotional artistic moment he is preparing for the Mamaia Festival 2023, 12 years after the death of his best friend, Mălina Olinescu: “I hope that my emotions will allow me to see it through to the end”.
Emotional artistic moment, on the stage of the Mamaia Festival 2023, in memory of Mălina Olinescu
Călin Geambașu is very excited about participating in the Mamaia Festival 2023, an event that will take place between August 25-27, in the Perla Square in Mamaia.
The artist comes with revelations, exclusively for Playtech News, about the artistic moment prepared, in memory of Mălina Olinescu, and which will surely impress an entire country:
“This year’s invitation made me incredibly happy, and I decided to premiere the song “Doar un vis” with my son, accompanied by the symphony orchestra conducted by maestro Daniel Jinga, a song that I only sang with Mălina and I hope that let the emotions allow me to see it through.
It’s a special thrill, a lack, a longing, a fulfillment, an ideal. I composed this song when I was 17 years old, especially to sing it together with Mălina. In fact, the reference in everything I used to compose was… Mălina’s voice”
Davin, the son of Călin Geambașu, is known to the public as a result of his participation in the contest “Next Star” (Antena 1), where he perfectly imitated the star Michael Jackson while dancing, but also being a talented drummer.
Călin Geambașu and Mălina Olinescu were awarded at the Mamaia Festival in 1996
Călin Geambașu and Mălina Olinescu enjoyed immense success at the traditional light music contest where, by the way, they were also awarded at the 1996 edition:
“In 1996, I stepped onto the stage of the festival with emotion, but this time also as a composer and orchestrator, performing two songs in a duet with Mălina, with which I won the III Prize, and at the same time together with my colleagues from the School of Stars , with which we prepared another, completely new show, with which we had another recital (costumes, choreography, compositions, a huge work, coordinated by Titus Munteanu and our “conductor”, Dana Mladin).
The same success as the year before. I was coming after I had released the first album with School of the Stars and had obtained the Golden Disc, an award celebrated with a show at the Polyvalent Hall in Bucharest”, Călin Geambașu also told us, for Playtech Știri.
“My presence at the Mamaia Festival was due to Titus Munteanu, my mentor and propellant”
Călin Geambașu has fond memories of the Mamaia Festival. On this occasion, the artist also shows his gratitude to his mentor, Titus Munteanu:
“In the years when I interacted with the Mamaia National Music Festival, many splendid things happened, even though I had barely reached the age of majority. All of them had a lot of work behind them, but the results far beyond what I dared to hope for made the previous study and preparation just a sweet memory.
My presence at the festival was due to Titus Munteanu, my mentor and propellant at the beginning of my career, the one who, through the inspiration of years of doing the TVR School of the Stars show, opened up horizons for me, otherwise unsuspected for me and my family’s genealogical tree biological.
And, of course, Mihaelei Cernea, my friend and schoolmate, who invited me to the preselection for the School of the Stars”.
Călin Geambașu’s debut at the Mamaia Festival: “I was living a fairy tale!”
Călin nostalgically told us about his debut at this musical contest, held by the sea:
“At the Festival, I was going to find out with joy that it was nothing like I had heard from my biological father (“piles, adversities, arrangements, harassment, let us know, etc.”). His lack of results at the “Mamaia” National Music Festival made me grow up with the wrong idea that there was something “nasty” there, when there, it was exactly the opposite: once I arrived at the festival, thanks to the preselection, to which TVR director Titus Munteanu sent me , my “boss” at the Star School, I was pleasantly surprised to find a relaxed, jovial atmosphere and a very high professional bar. All the illustrious composers of Romania were there, performers I had only seen on TV, production teams and a level of organization I had never seen before, fantastic stage equipment, for the 90s, simply sci-fi, for a kid like me, at that time when I had just turned 18 years old. In 1995 I participated for the first time at the Mamaia Festival, in a recital with my colleagues from the Stars School, but also in the Interpretation section. The emotions were huge, but Titus Munteanu’s bet won on TV also needed a direct meeting with the public. It was formidable. The world danced, sang with us. It was with an encore. It was like I was dreaming. In 1999, I was invited to be part of the specialized jury, and the year 2000 brought me the First Prize in the Creation section, with the song “A rain of stars”. I got the best score from the jury. In 2002, I decided together with my colleague and lifelong friend, Xenti Runceanu, to participate once more in the Creation section, where I also obtained the III Prize. It was pure magic for those years and at our tender ages. I was living a fairy tale, only it was real. I owe a lot to the Mamaia Festival”, Călin Geambașu also mentioned, exclusively for Playtech News.
